Biography
* She was born in 1936 in a Jewish family, at the age of 2 her parents had to send her away to her sister to run away from the Nazis, they could be reunited with theirparents after several months.
* When she was 10 years old her mother committed suicide, which left her many psychological problems which are very noticeable in her future artwork.
* After livingin England for a while they ended up in the United States. She grew up in New York and after studied art in Yale. She got married with an sculptor, one year after she made her first sculpture.
*She started to make sculptures in a period of time in which she and her husband lived in an abandoned mill from which she took all the materials that been left.
* Her first individual expositionwas made in the “Allan Stone” gallery in 1963.
* When she gets back to New York, she gets separated from her husband which caused her sculptures to become tetric and sad.
* She was diagnosedwith a brain tumor in 1969, she died 1 year after at the age of 34.
Her work
In a period of 5 years she was able to build a piece that has influenced many occidental artists. Even though people canfind many similarities between her work and the work of other artists of the sixty’s. Her pieces are only are known in the category of Process- art because its different from the typical northAmerican anti-idealist ways.
Most of her sculptures are conceived with an illusion of integrity, perfection and a sense of permanence. Her pieces reflect a deep and intimate message that shows her roughexperiences through life.
She uses a great variety of materials in her pieces specially to give texture
she has a very impulsive way at the time of producing her pieces to achieve a feeling ofanxiety.
She looks to eliminate anything that could make her work look within the meaning of perfection.
