The document i am going to present today is the x-ray machine that has changed the medical techniques into simpler , more time efficient ones. First of all, I am going totalk about how the doctors managed to cure some maladies without seeing through the human body, by dissecting, probing or even just guessing, then I will go through it’s invention, and it’s mechanism. At last, I will highlight the many uses of the x-ray machine nowadays.
BEFORE !
Before the xray machine, and all the Technologies capable of observing through the body ,The only wayof discovering it was to open it up. So it all began with
Galen: a greek physician, surgeon and philosopher. He accomplished medical researchers of antiquity, contributed greatly to theunderstanding of anatomy. Galen's dissection of apes and pigs gave him the detailed information for his medical tracts on the organs of the body. Nearly 100 of these tracts survived
Through hisexperiments Galen was able to overturn many long-held beliefs, such as the theory that the arteries contain air - carrying it to all parts of the body from the heart and the lungs. This belief is basedoriginally on the arteries of dead animals, which appear to be empty.
But then again, they used to dissect animals bodies to discover their anatomy and therefor make a parallelism with the human body.It lacked of precisness
So broken bones, tumors and the location of bullets were all diagnosed by physical examination, a lot of probing with the fingers or a doctor's best guess.
So heressome methods doctors used to apply : 500 years before x-rays were invented, Italian surgeon Guido Lanfranc would place a violin string between a patient's teeth. When the string was plucked, it wouldcause the skull to vibrate in a musical note. If the sound was bright and clear, the skull was intact and healthy. If the sound was dim and muffled, it indicated that a fracture was likely present....
