Roger Federer is a Swiss professional tennis player who appeared in the No. 1 of the ATP(Association of Tennis Professionals) for 237 consecutive weeks as of 2 February 2004 to 18 August 2008.

Federer has won a record 16 Grand Slam titles for men. He is one of seven male players who havewon a Grand Slam and one of the three (with Andre Agassi and Rafael Nadal) who has managed to do it on three different surfaces (clay, grass and hard courts).

Many sports analysts, critics andtennis players, consider Federer the greatest player of all time.

Federer has appeared in a record number of 23 final Grand Slam tournament. Holds the record for reaching the semifinals or better in23 consecutive Grand Slam tournaments over five and a half years, the 2004 Wimbledon Championships through the 2010 Australia Open. [13] In Australia Open 2012, which reached a record 31st consecutiveGrand throws the quarterfinals.

His rivalry with Rafael Nadal is considered one of the greatest of all time in sports. Federer is well respected by fans and fellow players as much as evidenced bythe fact that he has won the Fans' ATPWorldTour.com a record nine consecutive times (2003-2011) and Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award (which is voted by the players themselves) a record seven timesoverall and six consecutive times (2004-2009, 2011).

Federer also won the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of the Year in 2006. In 2011 he was elected as the second most reliable and respected in theworld, second only to Nelson Mandela.

As a result of successes in tennis Federer was named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year for an unprecedented four consecutive years (2005-2008) and in 2012headed a list of 100 best players of all time "(male and women) for the Tennis Channel.
