Last year, the Secretary of the Interior, Dirk Kempthorne, proposed adding Polar Bears to the threatened species list. The decision will be made whether or not to include Polar Bears on the list in January of 2008.
We are seeing stronger responses in species in areas with very cold-adapted species that have had strongwarming trends, like Antarctica and the Artic.

The main group of gray whales is found in the northeastern Pacific. Excessive hunting in the 19th century pushed the gray whaleto the brink of extinction but protection mandated by the International Whaling Commission in 1946 and the declaration by the Mexican government of Laguna San Ignacio in 1972 as a Gray Whale refuge means that it is one of the few success stories.
