facebook Inc. and how they make their money
Introduction:
In the last week I thought a lot about how I would describe my relationship to facebook: I guess it’s friendship. We really like eachother, spend much time together, but don’t depend on each other. I mean I could live without facebook, but why should I? It’s really useful, for all kinds of stuff.
Shareholder of facebook:
As it alreadysays in our topic, facebook’s form of enterprise is a corporation. Most of you don’t study economics, so I think I should first give you a short definition of a corporation:
A corporation is themost common form of business organization. It has a separate legal entity, which means that it’s a fictive person in front of the law and it has a separate legal standing from its owners. Therefore it’scharacterized by limited liability of its owners, which protects their private property in the case of the company being sued, which is very important in the case of facebook. Corporation is alsocalled incorporation, that’s what the “Inc.“ behind facebook stands for.
We already heard about Mark Zuckerberg, who invented facebook, we know about different investors and shareholders, but who reallyowns facebook? At first it’s important to know, that facebook does not trade stocks at the stock exchange. They are considering a public offer, which means starting to trade stocks, in 2012, but thereis still no official decision. That means that so far, there are only a few shareholders, who are either founding members or investors.

Mark Zuckerberg is co-founder and CEO, which stands for managing director. He owns 24 % of the company which is equivalent to $12 billion. All the employees together– co-founders included- own 45%, that’s $ 22.5 billion, which I think is a very big part.
