FAIR OF FLOWERS

Fair of flowers is a Colombian celebration in Medellin. People enjoy every year this fair, during ten days, since 1963.
Fair offlowers began on 1st may /1963 in Medellin - Colombia when Arturo Uribe Arango, an illustrious “Antioqueño” who was a member of tourism promotion. This date was chosen onMay because it was the flowers month.
The first celebration was held during five days, and this celebration was very simple, but nowadays it is very fascinating andexcited.
“Antioqueños” enjoyed for the first time the magic of the flowers carnival, and extended it to all visitors.
At this date an exhibition of flowers in theCatedral Metropolitana’s atrium was shown, and it was organized by the Gardening Club of
When the “Silleteros” Parade began, only forty peasants from Corregimiento SantaElena participated, and after that they were grouped at Simon Bolivar Park
By the time, Fair of Flowers has been a very important party to the city.

Now, the fair is celebrated on August, because this is the month of Antioquia independence, and the city wears with a variety of colors andflowers in the streets
