Fast food
What is ‘fast food’? First, ‘food’ consists on victuals that humans eat to survive. Feeding is the process that a person develops in a conscious way, eating and drinking to nourish thebody. Also it is a phenomenon influenced by culture, economy and social environment.
‘Fast food’, besides, refers to a waste material. It is due to the way that people select and prepare some foodso unhealthy for the body. To conclude, junk food presents high quantities of sugar, fats and sodium. They cause increased appetite and thirst and they produce health disorders over the time.Currently, in a family, the woman usually works the same time as the man, and she doesn’t have so much time to cook healthier. However, she appeals to make ‘fast food’ which results pleasant and delicious.That’s why children accustom to this type of food. On the other hand, consuming junk food, they don’t find the good flavor of fruits and vegetables.
Coming back in time, we can note that women weremore time at home and therefore they used to cook healthier food. They incorporated fruits and vegetables of their own garden without agrochemicals and fertilizers and bovine meat or chicken withouthormones. The fast food places weren’t much known.
Social customs have changed a lot. In the past there was more time to make healthier food and to enjoy familiar food. Nowadays people eat faster,more nervous and more stressed.
The culinary critic and columnist for the Caretas’ magazine, María Elena Cornejo, said that nobody really knew what ‘junk food’ was and what wasn’t, they had saidthey were hamburgers or things like that, but there wasn’t unitary approach.
That´s why she clarified that ‘fast food’ was not only that it contained large amounts of fat, because also a meal withmany flours or a meal with a high percentage of sodium can be considered ‘junk food’.
