FEMINISARTE
III
Exhibition of video-art
by female artists from a
gender perspective
20.02 - 16.08. 2015
Lately there has been a surge of female artists
on the visual arts circuit, particularly in the field of video art. Moreover, many of these female audiovisual creators
approach their art from gender-oriented angles, working within the broad field that the various expressions of
feminism have come to represent and making important contributions to the visual arts.
In view of this, the female audiovisual art
exhibition continues with FEMINIS-ARTE III. Its original aim remains unchanged: to foster and disseminate video
art –in its various forms– by female visual artists reflecting gender-based perspectives, above all in urban settings.
The two previous editions of the exhibition
have already been hosted by CentroCentro Cibeles. For FEMINIS-ARTE III, curator Margarita Aizpuru has selected
18 artists. 9 of them are Spanish, one is half-Spanish and half-Dutch and 8 are from other countries. Their works
reflect the latest aesthetic trends and have various feminist and gender-based focuses. The videosrepresent a
broad and creative visual range of perspectives and approaches that present a particular stance on what it means
to be a woman in today’s contemporary societies.
The artists and their videos were selected
based on the objectives, premises, approaches and languages that they all had in common, in addition to the
ways in which they differed in regard to culture and context, and with a view toencouraging a variety of structures
and tones in terms of visual discourse. The aim was to offer a contextualised picture of similarities and differences
under the common umbrella of women and their situations in different societies, particularly in the urban world.
It is a selection of audio-visual work offering
critiques and showcasing specific situations which also examines the behaviour, emotions and feelings of women, both in their daily lives and in terms of their inclusion in social and cultural systems as well as in hierarchical
power relations.

Muestra de videoarte
de mujeres artistas
desde perspectiva
de género
20.02 - 16.08. 2015
