Mario Molina
Mario was born on March 19, 1943 in Mexico city. His father was Roberto Felix Molina Pasquel and Leonor Henriquez.
He coursed primaryschool in Mexico city, and when he was 11 years old, he was sent to Switzerland to study.
When he was 17, he joined the Faculty of Chemistry of UNAM to studychemical engineering.
At the age of 22, after graduating, he continued his studies in the University of Fitchburg in Germany.
In 1968 he entered thedoctoral program in physical chemistry from the University of Berkeley, California and incorporated to the investigation group of the professor George C.Pimentel. He obtained the doctorate in 1972.
In 1973, became associated investigator in the University of California, Irvine, with Professor F. SherwoodRowland.
After 7 years in Irvine, he decided to join the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, in the group of Physics and Molecular Chemistry.
In 1989, he acquired U.S.citizenship and decided to incorporate to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a professor.
In 1995, he won the Nobel prize in Chemistry with PaulJ. Crutzen, and F. Sherwood Rowland for their work in atmospheric chemistry, concerning the formation and decomposition of ozone.
Since 2005, he isprofessor of the University of California in San Diego.
Molina was elected by Barack Obama as an advisor to the transition team for environmental issues inNovember 2008. Since April 2011, he is one of the 21 scientists who are part of the Council of Advisors on Science and Technology of President Barack Obama
