ficha tecnica INNOVACION AGRICOLA
Mexico -and one of the first ten in Latin America- to certify an Integrated Management
System in its main units called AHMSA’s Management System. This system encompasses
in a single concept the international standards
ISO 9001:2000 for Quality; ISO 14001 for
the Environment; and OHSAS 18001 for
Safety and Health.
To mantaing its leadership, AHMSAdeveloped the Fénix Project to increase in 40% its liquid steel production. The project includes the
installation of an Electric Arc Furnace, a Ladle Furnace, a Continuous Casting machine, a
Steckel Plate Mill and a new Blast Furnace.

At the close of 1991, AHMSA was privatized. An intense modernization program was
started in 1992 thatincluded general revampings and improvements to increase the capacity of its main facilities. In 1995 a third
continuous caster was installed, as well as a
new dual line for the production of Tinplate
and Tin-Free Steel.
In 1976 AHMSA inaugurated a second steelworks located adjacent to the first unit featuring Mexico’s biggest and most modern blast
furnace, a new BOF shop with a converter
anda continuous caster. In 1983, a second
converter and another continuous caster were
added.
AHMSA was founded on July 6, 1942 and
began operating on June 2, 1944. Gradually, the Company began to grow with the
addition of new equipment that would enable
it to increase its capacity and diversify its products. In 1971, AHMSA operated with four
blast furnaces and inaugurated its first BOF
shop,a state-of-the-art facility at the time.
