Perspectives on abortion
Abortion has been one of the most highly debated social and political issues along time. The humankind coulddiscuss; whether abortion is good or bad? Or perhaps, is abortion morally correct? Or a harder question for this issue is; what is the morality of abortion? Morality is “to act with a good will” (CarlMickelsen) the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behavior. Therefore, the following text will aim to explain the morality of abortion from a Kantian perspective and the perspective ofact utilitarianism. Although, Immanuel Kant and his Kantian perspective could quite differ from John Stuart Mill and his perspective on act utilitarianism on a subject such as abortion, bothphilosophers bring an extraordinary input in subjects like abortion.
The philosophy of Immanuel Kant heavily depends on his Ethical system. Which, it would be deeply explain throughout this text. Accordingto a Kantian perspective; morality is the “System of a priori principles and concepts constituting ethics” (lecture notes). This perspective gives an excellent contribution to explain, what ismorality? He sets out to find an understanding of morality that can be derived from reasoning rather than from empirical experience. Good will establishes the foundation of morality, to be moral is to actwith a good will. The right intention is to do the right thing, to do once duty, In order to respect and follow moral law. People, who are constantly doing the right thing Is what Kant could call GoodWill. There is absolutely nothing more important for morality that acting in good will. Kant explains a long his theory that acting with good will automatically does its duty.
According to a Kantianperspective duty is” A priori- on principle without regard to the particular outcome.”(Lecture notes) To have moral value an action must be done for the sake of duty.
