VOLUME 1 LIST OF APPROVED PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
Foreword by Peter Holland CBE OStJ QFSM, Chief Fire Officer of Lancashire Fire and
Rescue Service

Dear Specifier
When we look back at 2011 we will all remember (sadly) the terrible images of fire and vandalism caused by
rioting and protest across the world.
There is no doubt therefore that designers and ownersmust consider not just life safety but also the additional
business risk to property and infrastructure by ‘unexpected’ threats such as arson or physical attack over and
above the regulatory needs to protect life and property against the threat of fire and crime. It is impossible to
foresee all eventualities of course, but by specifying effective, properly installed fire and security protectionsystems, the negative consequences of an incident can be reduced considerably.
The most effective way of doing this is to select products, systems and installers that are approved and listed
by an independent third party certification body such as LPCB. Third party approval is confirmation that these
products, systems and their installers have met and continue to meet appropriate standards. As an independent certification body, LPCB has one of the most extensive fire and security testing
laboratories in the world and its approvals are undertaken by a highly qualified team of expert scientists and
engineers. LPCB develops standards within a framework that includes rigorous consultation and involvement
of a wide range of stakeholders that includes clients, insurers, manufacturers, public bodies and emergency
services. This all goes to make the LPCB certification mark “A Mark you can trust”
I have, therefore, no hesitation in recommending the products and services, listed in Red Book 2012, to you.
