INTRODUCTION

This paper analyzes the life of a family who has a secret past and how this secret is brought to the present, affecting the lives of four innocent children. This secret punishes them and makes themcommit the same sin of their parents.

Plot of the Novel Flowers in the Attic written by V.C. Andrews


In this novel, everything starts with a normal and classic “American middle class family”. The story is narrated by one member of thisfamily, Cathy Dollanganger; when she starts telling us her family story, she is twelve years old. She starts remembering her father and the “perfect life” they have; describing all the members of her family, she starts with her father named Christopher: a 33 year old man, tall, strong, with blue eyes and blond hair, with a big love for his family; her mother named Corrine, also a beautiful 28year old woman, with long blond hair, blue eyes, and a lovely sight every time she sees her husband. She describes also her older brother named Christopher Jr.; he is just like his father, and at last she describes the twins Cory and Carry both of them with blond hair…just like their parents.


The first chapter begins with the tragic death of the father in a car accident the day of hisbirthday, and Corrinne organizes a surprise party to her husband, but he never shows up. After a couple of hours, the police appear in the house with the bad news, and Corrinne is in shock, and the guests leave the family alone with their loss.


After a couple of weeks, the bills are hard to pay and in this moment, the children’s nightmare begins, just because Corrinne starts to writeletters to her mother in order to accept her and her family so they could live with her. Some weeks later, Corrinne receives a letter from her...
