His First writing was published in his school when he was thirteen, after that he became member of the Princeton Class of 1917 were he neglected hisstudies for his literary apprenticeship. He joined the army and was a second lieutenant, convinced he would die he wrote a novel. He was assign in Alabama were he fell in love with eighteen year oldZelda Sayre; the war ended, after his discharge he went to New York to seek for his fortune in order to marry, but Zelda was unwilling to wait and broke the engagement.
Francis quit his job and wentback to St. Paul to rewrite his novel This Side of Paradise. He commenced his career as a writer from the mass circulation magazines, and moneymaking popular fiction The Saturday Evening Post, hisbest story market, a week later he married Zelda. They had an extravagant life as young celebrities. Zelda became pregnant and gave birth to Frances Scott in St. Paul in October 1921. Around 1923 hebecame an alcoholic and encouraged the myth that he was an irresponsible writer. The Fitzgerald’s went to France were he wrote The Great Gatsby. The marriage was damaged when Zelda got involved withanother man. The Fitzgerald’s remained in France until the end of 1926, and returned to America. Zelda commenced ballet training, intending to become a professional dancer, but her intense work damagedher health. She spends the rest of her life as a resident or outpatient.
