Guggenheim Museum Bilbao

The Guggenheim Museum is Bilbao’s most famous attraction. Frank Gehry was the architect. He was required to design an amazing workof art, which could bring thousands of tourists to Bilbao. Gahry said that he was inspired by the landscape, the sea, and the light. Furthermore, he did nothave to consider the economic costs. As a result, he created a masterpiece.

Walt Disney Concert Hall

After the success of the Guggenheim in Bilbao, Gehrywon a contest invitation to design The Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Disney’s family contributed 100 million to build a high class venue, in honourof Walt Disney’s fervour for the arts. Subsequently, the County of Los Angeles arranged to provide the land, and to finance a subterranean parking lot. Gehrydeveloped this project before the Guggenheim.

Resemblances between Frank Gehry’s Buildings

Between the Guggenheim Bilbao and The Disney Hall, the mostremarkable similarity is the combination of connecting figures; such as flowing curves and angles, and asymmetric shapes. Another resemblance between them is thematerial: he used stainless steel in both buildings.

Beauty and Functionality

Though on first glace the buildings look very similar, they are also differentin function. The Guggenheim is my favourite; Gehry’s masterpiece. It was created to attract tourists to Bilbao, and to provide a high quality of light for theart exhibitions. As a concert venue, the Disney Hall, a unique modern piece of art, was covered with stainless steel to provide excellent acoustics for music.
