What is the OmniSwitch 6250?
The Alcatel-Lucent® OmniSwitch™ 6250 is a new Value Layer 2+ Fast Ethernet Stackable LAN family of switches for both theenterprise and ethernet access segments. Enterprise models address the small and medium-sized enterprise edge and branch office environments, while the Metro models address the residential andbusiness Ethernet access supplied by service providers.
The Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch 6250 family is an evolution of the current OmniStack™ 6200 fast ethernet LAN switch product family, embedding thelatest technology and AOS innovations.
Solutions benefiting from the OmniSwitch 6250 family of switches are:
• Edge of small-to-mid-sized networks
• Branch office enterprise workgroups
•Residential/Metro Ethernet triple-play applications
What models are available?
Enterprise models:
OmniSwitch 6250-24\P24 - 24 RJ-45 ports of 10/100BaseT with two gigabit RJ45/SFP combo ports and two2.5G full duplex stacking ports. Available in PoE power (P model).
Metro (M) models:
OmniSwitch 6250-8M - 8 RJ-45 ports of 10/100BaseT with two gigabit RJ45/SFP combo ports and two SFP uplinkports (gigabit) or SFP stacking ports (2.5G full duplex).
OmniSwitch 6250-24M/24MD - 24 RJ-45 ports of 10/100BaseT with two gigabit RJ45/SFP combo ports and two SFP uplink ports (gigabit) or SFPstacking ports (2.5G full duplex).
Available in DC power (D model).
Does the copper portion of the combo ports support PoE?
Yes. User may manual configure PoE on the fast ethernet (ports 23-24) oron the gigabit (ports 25-26). This is ideal for full gigabit bandwidth connections to 802.11N APs.
Do the copper ports support 802.3at PoE?
Yes. The AOS software defaults have ports 1-6 and23-24 or 25-26 supporting up to 30W of PoE power. Approximately 180W of the 225W PoE supply is allocated for the PoE power budget.
Why is there not a full 48 port model available?
