The Generation Gap :

What’s the “generation gap?”

Here are some definitions:

“A difference in attitudes between people of different generations, leading to lack of understanding” (GenerationGap, 2004).

 “The differences in values, lifestyles, and economic opportunities that exist between people of different age cohorts living in the same society” (Barker, 2003, p. 176).

Let’sstart talking about it deeply.

A generation Gap is then defined by the differences in customs, attitudes, and beliefs between any two generations, but especially between youths and adults; parents andchildren; teachers and students.

The generation gap is a popular term used to describe differences between people of a younger generation and their elders, especially between a child and his or herparent's generation. The term first became popularized in Western countries during the 1960s and described the cultural differences between the young and their parents.

Although some generationaldifferences have existed throughout history, because of more rapid cultural change during the modern era differences between the two generations increased in comparison to previous times, particularlywith respect to such matters as musical tastes, fashion, culture and politics. This may have been magnified by the unprecedented size of the young generation during the 1960s, which gave itunprecedented power, and willingness to rebel against societal norms.

But, why is there a Generation Gap between parents and their children?

Generation gap is the major reason today why parents andchildren are moving away from each other. As we all know, the environment has changed, so has the life style and with that changes the mind of children. Today’s generation doesn’t like others interferingin any of their personal matters, they don’t like parents ordering them, and if they try and tell them what’s wrong for them, they misbehave with their parents.
