Gastroenterology is the medicalspecialty that deals with all diseases of the digestive system , comprising :
• esophagus
• stomach
• liver and bile ducts
• pancreas
• the small intestine (duodenum , jejunum, ileum )
• thecolon (large intestine )
• rectum.
A gastroenterologist needs to have a detailed understanding of the normal physiology of every organ and above mobility through the intestines and gastrointestinaltract to maintain a healthy digestion, food buffer , removal of useless and metabolic processes.
Gastroenterology is a branch of medicine concerned with digestive diseases. The practice ofgastroenterology concentrates on the diagnosis and treatment involving the esophagus , stomach, small intestine and large intestine (colon ), liver, gallbladder and pancreatic diseases. This field ofmedicine is actually a specialty of Internal Medicine , for example , cardiology , which deals with heart disease .
A gastroenterologist is a specialist who was first trained in Internal Medicine andsubsequently in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive system. Often called a gastroenterologist in cases of abdominal pain , rectal bleeding, or change in bowel habits, when thediagnosis is unclear or where specialized diagnostic procedures are required .
The gastroenterologist must have completed six years of college for a degree general physician. Then , he / she mustcomplete an additional three years of specialty training in Internal Medicine and two years of training in the specialty of Gastroenterology .
