My mother was a dedicated housewife devoted to her 6 kids and husband. Her responsibilities to her role as a woman were to care the needs of her kids, and myDad. My father, the provider, did manage to support us all and maintain a household. These were roles that I distinguished in a household, “Females” care of thehusband and kids while “Males” provide for all of them. It was only the top of the iceberg since I found several characteristics that correspond uniquely to eachrole. Long story short, Women play with dolls, hold hands and wear pink; Men love soccer, ride cars, and don’t cry. Like many, this was the home where I grew upwhere I was injected an innate role according to my gender. However, families are a projection of society in which gender roles are known to be different and shiftaccording to the social norm.

At home, when it came to roles, it was never about one better than each other but complement one another. They were just differentbecause they had to be. It was not ok for me to wear pink but blue; neither my sister play with cars but dolls. Even thought, pink and blue are colors, dolls andcar are toys; their function was base on setting a path for a given role.

These roles were shape since early age, and pass from generation to generation. At the real world, gender roles are base on power and control. Who decides which role we must take? And what are these differences base on?

There was neversomething neutral neither equal, rather than different. These Roles somehow fitted one of the two genders, so we can have something that we can call different.
