Hey Deacons!!
I hope you are all doing really well. I wanted to write you and thank you for the wonderful care package you sent me! I was so happy to get it, and it was so nice of you to sendsomething all the way down here for me. My host family and I have actually eaten ALL the m&ms if you can believe that. They loved them, as well as the peanut butter, and I loved them too! My hostsisters and I have been enjoying SO MUCH nail polish, and the kids at the shelter LOVE twister. I had to play it so many times, I thought my thighs were going to fall off. We play it in English toteach them the colors and parts of the body—they get pretty competitive.
Christmas was great here, as was my birthday, but I really do miss everyone at home so much! But I am lucky to have so manypeople to miss. After I raised my initial money for my trip, people just kept giving and giving. I was so amazed. I even got money once I was already here! I used some of the funds to give to theshelter at which I volunteer, in order to buy food and a pressure cooker. Guatemalans use pressure cookers to cook their beans, obviously a staple, and the one at the shelter broke. I was so thankfulto be able to help. And I could only help because of the generosity of our church (my friends also, but largely our church). The volunteer coordinator was so amazed at RCPCs generosity. We alsobought some hygiene products (for example, the shelter rarely has toilet paper because it is too expensive) that they were in need of. At one point, each person at the shelter was eating for about 1quetzal a day. There are over 7 quetzales in a dollar, so the money I was able to give for food helped immensely. All of this was done for $1,000, and I am so thankful to our church. Enough about allthat though!
I want to thank you for your prayers and support. I never expected to be so thought of here, and it makes me feel so loved. I cannot tell you thank you enough! I just hope everyone...
