Louisiana (in English, Louisiana), state located in South America, bordered on the north by Arkansas, to the east by Mississippi, south to the Gulf of Mexico and westTexas. The Mississippi river channel is a part of the eastern border, and the Sabine River, the western. Its main cities are Baton Rouge (capital), New Orleans, Shreveport, Lafayette and Kenner.

It hasan area of 134,265 km ², while its coastline along the Gulf of Mexico has 639 km long. Louisiana has three lower regions: the western Gulf coastal plain, the alluvial plain of the Mississippi andeastern Gulf coastal plain. The West Gulf Coastal Plain occupies the entire western half of the state. The coast is characterized by sandy beaches barriers. Inside is a swamp area with large saltdeposits underground.
