George Washinton
Washington started winning awards arming troops of the colony of Virginia to support the British Empire during theFrench and Indian War (1754-1763), a conflict that he inadvertently helped start.
The Continental Congress appointed Washington commander in chief of the Continental Army in 1775.7 The following year,the British were driven from Boston, lost New York City and were defeated at Trenton, New Jersey, to the surprise caused Washington Crossing the Delaware River . Because of his strategy, Revolutionaryforces captured the two main British fighter armies at the Battle of Saratoga and the Yorktown. In negotiating with Congress, the colonial states, and French allies, he held a weak army and a fragilenation amid the threats of disintegration and failure. After leading the American victory in the War of Independence, he resigned his military office and returned to life in Mount Vernon plantation,an act that brought him even more fame.
In 1787, he presided over the Philadelphia Convention that drafted the Constitution of the United States of America and in 1789, was unanimously elected as thefirst president of the United States. He tried to create a nation capable of sustaining peace with its neighbors. His Proclamation of Neutrality of 1793 provided a basis for avoiding any involvementin foreign conflicts.
