The movie is an historic drama and it describes the difficulties of surviving and the way lifewas in 19th century.
It´s mid 19th century in northern France. The story is about a coal miner's town. The workers are exploited by the mine's owner. One day, they decide to go on strike, and theauthorities repress them.
At the beginning of the film, arrives to the colony a train driver named Etienne Lampi, he gets a job in the mine thanks to the death of a miner.
