Global Warming
Over the years, the Earth has been gradually getting warmer due to rapidly increasing pollution levels. Humans, however, are slow to take the necessary actions to prevent it from getting any worse. In this essay, three topics will be discussed along how they all connect to global Warming. In order to prove how thepolitical, environmental and moral crises connect and contribute to the climate change. Global warming would be defined and some of its causes, how mankind, with the use of technology and the emissions of CO2 are indeed heating up the planet, and finally, how the animals and vegetables are being affected by the lack of action from part of the politicians.
Global Warming is sometimes knownas anthropogenic (man-made) global warming, climate change or greenhouse effect. The term refers to a small yet significant increase of the average temperature of the Earth’s surface and its progression. This is a result of more solar radiation, industrialization, deforestation, and pollution that has greatly increased the atmospheric concentrations of water vapor, carbon dioxide (CO2),chlorofluorocarbons, methane and nitrous oxide, all greenhouse gases that help trap heat near Earth’s surface.
Pollution is one of the main causes that represent a problem caused by men. Burning (1)fossil fuels is what mainly causes pollution, because they are more likely made of organic matter such as coal or oil that when burned, they release the greenhouse gas called carbon dioxide. An examplecould be the unnecessary use of SUVs. Some people are (2)heedless and (3)gullible about the consequences of the fuel emissions. That means more burning of fossil fuels, equaling more methane. In addition, the trees that convert our CO2 to oxygen are being demolished and burned by natural or intentional methods, to use the tree land as property for homes and buildings. At the same time they cutdown the trees, the log releases amounts of CO2 stored in it. People do not replace the trees, and are constantly taking advantage of natural resources without giving anything in return. With the increase of population, more fossil fuels and fewer trees would signify less oxygen and more CO2 to fill our lungs with.
Those actions coupled with the political responses, however, haven’t beengood so far. Politician’s (4)attainment is usually to (5)abide themselves in their post of power. They are not taking action to abate the Global Warming and are making empty promises. For instance, in 1988, there were enough public outcries that George Bush, the elder, promised to combat “the greenhouse effect with the White House effect”. In addition, in 1992, Bill Clinton promised that Americawould emit less CO2 by 2000 than they had on 1990 and introduce more renewable energy, including (6)photovoltaic energy. None of those two happened; they presided over a decade and instead, Americans who emitted a quarter of the world’s carbon dioxide, increased their total output by 12%. However, this shows how they think that the economy can handle changes (7)in stride, but what they don’t know isthat they’re going to (8)bewail their inactions when they see the consequences and they become unavoidable.
Consequently, as a result of Global Warming, the lack of politicians actions towards it and carless people to take the right action, the temperatures will rise by as much as 11 ºF, causing the melting of the ice caps that will lead to rises in the sea level. In addition, evaporationwould increase, causing more droughts in dry areas and more precipitation causing floods. Furthermore, it would not only affect human life due to the fact that around two billion people live around water bodies, but also it would affect the animal and vegetable life.
In essence, human life would be at risk as well as coral reefs ecosystems that would be vulnerable by the rise of the...
