Formal Analysis of Gold Marylin by Warhol
1. What is the role of color? The colors used are a few, and they are in a way that they make Marilyn’s face the center of attention. The mostpart of the painting is in gold color, probably because she was a celebrity and that represented the luxury that surrounded her. Also we can see that her shirt combines with the shadows ofher eyes, probably it was her real makeup but also it could reflect the superficial things that involved her locking her up. Finally the shadows emphasize all her presence, pretty factionsand leafy hair.
2. How does the artist employ line? He uses the lines to express all the sensuality Marilyn had only in her face as her eyebrows, eyeleashes, mouth and the little part ofher shirt.
3. How does he represent space? The space is full of golden color, assuring that all the attention of the viewer will be at Marilyn’s face. There is no real background, unlesswe see that gold as all the luxury and glamour she was full of, in just one color he represents all that huge campus of the celebrity life.
4. How is the human figure painted? It seemsas a not very detailed paint, is simple, but with that we can see, that she was simply physically beautiful without needing to show any more details, her face was enough, even if in theinside it could be otherwise.

6. What seems to be going in the painting and how is this accentuated through the formalelements described above? It seems like she was posing for that painting, or probably, is just the image if her smile in certain moment, that stood in Wharol’s mind, and that expressed alot to him, as a pretended happiness, that he perceived, but at the same time that innate seduction she has in her face, that cannot be changed even by what is in her inside or outside.
