LEED certificado museos tienden a ser una tarea difícil en términos económicos y de diseño, que es una de las razones por qué hay tan pocos de ellos. Sorprendentemente, Yantrasast fue capaz de triplicar el tamaño del museo, de 125.000 metros cuadrados, mientras que el mantenimiento de una huella ambiental estelar. The Grand Rapids Art Museum in Michigan was the first museum in the world toearn LEED certification. Finished in 2007, the museum was named one of the top new buildings of the year by Newsweek. Its roof is designed to both reflect heat and collect water, which is used for things like dishwashing and its reflecting pool. Its walls are made of locally sourced concrete, which goes with the locally sourced food in the cafe.

Being one ofthe very first art museums in the US designed with the goal for LEED certification, the use of natural light in the building was carefully planned. 
Most public areas have natural light, galleries receive light from top lantern skylights as well as large windows; connecting art to surrounding urban life.
The design emphasizes the important balance of both the exterior openness and the interiorcalmness. Visitors can enjoy the uplifting quality of light in the galleries as well as the outdoors under the canopy.
