Grammy Awards 2011: A little history
One of the most important awards in the music industry, no doubt, is the Grammy Award medal given by The National Academy ofRecording Arts and Sciences, founded in May 1957.
Lady Antebellum became the top winner of the 53 annual awards to be five Grammy statuettes. Photo Album of the Year was for the rockband Arcade Fire for their production "The Suburbs" and tied with three trophies Eminem, Lady Gaga, Jay Z, John Legend and Jeff Black.
The resurrection ofthe controversial rapper Eminem, who was the top nominee of the night with 10 nominations and took Best Rap Album in Rap Solo Performance with "Not Afraid”. Rihanna with "Only girl" wonthe Grammy for best dance album.
Lady Gaga, who has been characterized by their outlandish costumes laid aside his garment of flesh and now was carried inside a hugeegg that could not fully comply with the singer. The singer was nominated in six categories and managed to Pop Vocal Album for "The fame monster" and best short music videofor "Bad romance."
This year the three-hour ceremony featured 16 musical productions compared with the previous nine awards.
Winners were selected by a vote of 13 thousand members of theNational Recording Academy (NARAS for its acronym in English) including musicians, composers, producers, engineers, record labels and radios.
Eminem topsthe list of artists with 10 nominations this year, followed by Bruno Mars with 7, and Lady Gaga, Lady Antebellum and Jay Z with 6. Julieta Venegas is nominated for Best Latin Pop Album for his album"Something Else", and Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich + Fussible, under the category of Best Latin Rock, Alternative Or Urban Album for "Boulevard 2000. "
