An Emergent Discipline: Green Theory
Ball & Dagger state that ideologies emerge out of crisis. "The crisis out of which a broadly based green movement has emerged is the environmental crisis" (Ball & Dagger 261). Undoubtedly, within the scope of political theory for decades witnessed the development of green political theory or green political thought, a real emerging sub-discipline that can notbe understood if it is through its relationship with a definition of environmentalism as a contemporary political ideology that influences the political discourse of contemporary democracies, the theory and practice of the movements and green parties, and environmental public policies. To argue that environmentalism is a contemporary political ideology and a diverse movement that is building anew identity in societies undergoing profound social change work processes is necessary to evaluate both its political importance as its theoretical reflection. Not all of Green advocates are 'liberals' or left -leaning; some call themselves "conservative environmentalist." For example Edmund Burke who stated "each generation has a duty to leave to posterity an habitation, not a ruin" (Ball & Dagger262). This implies that environmentalism is a multifaceted political phenomenon characterized by a variety of theories and practices that make it a new way to decentralized, multiform and ubiquitous networking articulated that is creating a new biological identity, a culture of the species as a component of human nature. All species are interdependent and connected. "In separating ourselves fromnature, we have divided our lives and experiences into separate compartments; this sense of disconnectedness is an illusion that unless dispelled will doom

our species and many others to extinction" (Ball & Dagger 265). Thinking about environmentalism requires establishing some kind of criteria that define a theoretical phenomenon and a political complex. A review to the excellent collectionsof texts, and introductions on green policy specified by the literature of contemporary green political theory reveals the truth of this assertion. In principle, there is an overwhelming consensus because the impact of human action in the natural world have been much greater in recent decades, in which environmentalism has become a phenomenon to be taken very seriously and, thus, environmentalprotection, nature and green values are now commonplace. The land, air, and water belong to all creatures; nature is not for sale at any price, for it is not a commodity that exists apart from us; we are part of the earth and the is earth a part of us (Ball & Dagger 265). However, the problem starts when we try to point out that we understand the environment and, more specifically, by nature andsource of controversy within the environmental thinking that it depends on our interpretation of the theory and practice of political policies. This theory requires humans to recognize the extent of our power and to take full responsibility by becoming wise stewards of our planet because the fate of earth and all its creatures now depends, for better or worst, on human decisions and actions (Ibid). There are numerous cases that prove the importance of Green politics for the conservation, protection and quality of life, stemming from saving the Elliot Forest, to protection of endangered species like whales and wolves that were nearly extinct, to nuclear waste and furthermore to the protection of people and their basic human rights. There are great damages and suffrages that can be brought ontoan environment and to a

whole society by not having a green perspective. For example, the struggle of the Ogoni people of Nigeria brought on by Shell. "We either win this war to save our land, or we will be exterminated, because we have nowhere to run to" Ken Saro-Wiwa, MOSOP. The threat to the Ogoni people started when Shell discovered oil there in 1958. At that time, Nigeria was still...
