The Cold War, it was called like this because it was never a real conflict, but more like crashes of ideas, an ideological confrontation between the USA and the USSR,where each country wanted to implement their governmental system all over the world, it started at the final of the Second World War in 1945, this event replaced Europe as themost important role in the world, to introduce to new powers: The United States of America and The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, these two bringing a new armament tothe world: the nuclear weapons.
There were no longer competitors because these two powers weren’t just that, they’ve become superpowers. Even though they were Alliesagainst the Axis, they had opposite regimes, the Soviet Union with the communism and the US with the capitalism. Their systems weren’t just different but contradictory, whatkept them together during the war was the existence of a common enemy. In the Cold War it also took place the Arms Race, which had the porpose to have the best and biggestweapons in the world, destroying the enemy meant also blowing the rest of the world to pieces.
The Allies at the end of the Second World War occupied Germany in foursections, one for each allie. Later Germany was divided in West and East Germany. The West side was an independent country with communism occupied by the USSR. The East side wasa capitalist country ruled by France, Great Britain and the US.
The Cold War came to an end when the USSR couldn’t sustain East Germany because communism is far fromsuccess. By 1989 all other european countries were leaving communism behind. As a result of that the Berlin Wall was demolished and a year later Germany became a single country.
