Also, another reason for the war was the oppression that was happening to the Iraqipeople.. I believe that just the idea that Iraq having weapons of mass destruction was enough cause to go to war. Because of the idea that Iraq could or would be able to use these weapons against them, itis in our best interest to go to war to protect a nation against these types of nations that are building their country around weapons of mass destruction. The response in the United States to SaddamHussein's moves was first shock and then dismay. Strategist, statesmen and the general public quickly came to understand that the United States had significant interests in making certain that SaudiArabia was not conquered by Saddam's juggernaut. Having rolled over Kuwait, Saddam already controlled over 20 percent of the world's oil reserves. Saudi Arabia contained an additional 20 percent. Sincethe world economy was primarily driven by fossil fuels, what Saddam could do with these resources could easily be imagined.

Such crimes could not be ignored, and Americans had every reason to expect that this kind of behavior would continue and even accelerateshould Iraqi forces move into Saudi Arabia.
