HAITI NATURAL DISASTER (2010)
In Haiti a earthquake happened in January 12, 2010. Haiti is a Caribbean country, it occupies the western, smaller portion of the island of Hispaniola, in theGreater Antillean archipelago. The economy of Haiti was the poorest of all the continent of America and one of the poorest of the world.
This island is seismically active and has a historyof destructive earthquakes. The shock happened in 2010 is the strongest seism occurred in the history of Haiti since 1770. This natural disaster also feels countries near Haiti, for example:Cuba, Jamaica and Dominican Republic.
That day the Geological Services says, two hours after the principal seism happened six replicas and in nine hours other 26. With this natural disasteraround 3 million people had consequences, although we don’t know the exact numbers.
One of the consequences of this quake was the telephone collapse. The social networks like Twitter, Facebookwere used to obtain information and diffuse information.
To count the numbers of victims was difficult because of the rubbles causes the seism. But they think that were around 150.000 peopledead only in the capital, Puerto Principe.
About the wounded, we can say that they were a lot and a lot of people was moved out to the hospital of the Dominic Republic. Also a lot ofchildren come mutilated and men, women and old people with fractures.
After the natural disaster some days later the damages were more. Public build like schools, churches, offices, airports… alsothe telephone line and internet were destroyed. Consequently, they didn´t can coordinate the rubbles, removes the corpses, attends wounded …
In consequence of all that, experts say that thereconstruction of all the nation will take around ten years.
To finish we have to say that a lot of people from other countries send money, food, clothes, medicines, volunteers, firefighters …
