“Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis: When Your Thyroid Becomes Your Enemy

In Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, also knows like Thyroiditis autoimmune, the autoimmune system begins makingantibodies against its own thyroid system, preventing the production and the next utilization of the hormones secreted (T3 and T4).

The incidence of this disease increases with age and is more prevalentamong women. Also there is a genetic predisposition to generate it.

Hashimoto’s essentially makes one hypothyroid at first, with symptoms like fatigue, cold extremities, dry skin, weight gain, andothers. Then, the damage on the thyroid produced by the antibodies makes an increase on the secretation of thyrodies hormones, with hypothyroidism symptoms.

Hashimoto’s can be treated with desiccatedthyroid preparations or with synthetic medications from T4 hormones (inactive hormone) or from both T3 y T4 (active and inactive hormone respectably).”
