Hepatitis

Hepatitis is the inflammation of the liver. However there are many kinds of hepatitis, but the one we are going to mention here is the Hepatitis C, which is caused by the virus HCV andblood transfusions. This disease causes pain because it stretches the capsule that surrounds the glisson´s sheath.
Some of the symptoms of the disease are:
• Abdominal pain
• Abdominal swelling• Bleeding from the esophagus or stomach (due to dilated veins in the esophagus or stomach called varicose veins)
• dark urine which is called coluria
• fatigue
• fever
•itch
• Loss of appetite
• sickness
• yellow colored skin which is called ictericia
• vomiting

Treatment
Among the most common medicines are a combination of pegylatedinterferon alpha and ribavirin, a drug antiviral. Most commonly patients receive weekly injections of pegylated interferon alfa, which is taken twice daily, the treatment with this medicine isadministered for 24 to 48 weeks.

People with hepatitis C should also be careful not to take vitamins, nutritional supplements and new medicines over the counter without first asking your doctor. Avoid anysubstances that are toxic to the liver, including alcohol which reduces the effectiveness of treatment and even moderate amounts of speed up the progression of hepatitis C.
Prognosis:
For hepatitisC, many factors affect a person's prognosis.

Some of the most important factors are:
• The amount of virus in your body
• Its genotype
• How long you have had hepatitis C
• How much liverdamage has already been done
• Any other medical conditions you may have.
Other factors that may also affect a person's hepatitis C prognosis include the person's:
• Age
• Ethnicity
• Generalhealth
• Response to treatment.
Age and gender:
The disease can present in any gender and at any age.
