ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY INFORMATION
ABOUT THE INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH
* 1-GENERAL STATEMENT:
It is a general statement that has a purpose to capture the audience attention, the beginning needs to bea very impressive and shocking declaration.
* EXAMPLE:
It is inadmissible to see how horse mistreatment t in Colombia takes place in front not only of civilized human beings that as them feelsphysical pain and when no one is in a position to justify such a senseless situation.
* DEFINITION:
Horse mistreatment in Colombia (paraphrase a punctual definition, cite source (e.g.according to the Oxford dictionary)
* COMPARISON:
Between what the situation, event etc is now and the past .They can not be just simple sentences but very well presented information that shows thatthe writer is informed about the issue. E.g. ALTHOUGH, DESPITE THE FACT THAT, ETC. (discourse markers). The writer has to show his or her deep knowledge about the topic.
* In this part of theparagraph it is of great importance to notice the following: if the thesis to be presented is against the issue in this part it must be POSITIVE. If in the other hand, a NEGATIVE statement is presented bythe writer this part must be POSITIVE.
THESIS;
* The thesis statement or main claim must be debatable. It must be something that people could reasonably have differing opinions on. If yourthesis is something that is generally agreed upon or accepted as fact then there is no reason to try to persuade people. Example of a non-debatable thesis statement:
Drinking too much alcoholicbeverages is bad for human’s health.
