Monterrey is a Mexican city municipality, capital of Nuevo Leon state and head of the urban area that bears his name: Zona Metropolitana de Monterrey. The metropolitan area, composed ofthe town and municipality of Monterrey with Habs 1,130,960. and other locations in nine municipalities of Nuevo León, grouped a total of 4,080,329 inhabitants according to the latest official count and delimitation in 2010 by INEGI, CONAPO and SEDESOL.2 The Monterrey metropolitan area is the second largest city of Mexico as well as the third most populous, behind only the metropolitan areas ofMexico, D. F. and Guadalajara.2.
