This piece of art is aprayer niche which is called Mihrab. It was made in the llhhanid period(1206-1353) in Iran, Isfahan. It is a polychrome- glazed stonepaste body, whichis formed by small glass cut tiles in blue and turquoise shades. There is also different type of inscriptions that are in this art piece. There isthe IX:14-22 from the Qur'an runs, the second script is the kufic, (saying of the prophet), and the third script is in cursive. This piece of art workis 343.1 x 288.7 cm. This piece of art is now being held at the Metropolitan Museum in New Your.
I chose this art piece because of the colors. They are all different shades of blue, turquoise, some purple and yellow in it as well. By a glaze you can see al they different shapes and detailsthat make up this piece. You can see how much work and how much commitment was put into making this piece. You can see how much time they put intothis art piece because every little piece of grass is put into a specific place. The tile makers of this piece made this because they believed insomething, which in this case was their god. It shows how much they are devoted to their god. In iran you can walk around the street and you see art workthat is link to their god. You usually never see something that is religious walking down the street in the US because they take offence to it.
