Levi Strauss & Co. (Levi's) is a manufacturer of clothing, known worldwide for its Levi's brand of jeans. It was founded in 1853 in Sacramento (California, USA) by LeviStrauss, Jewish immigrant from Buttenheim, in the Franconia region of Bavaria state, southern Germany.
In 1873 Levi Strauss and tailor Jacob Davis received a patent from the United States to make thefirst men's work pants in denim (denim): the first jeans. The company briefly experimented in the 1970s with the listing, but the ownership and control remains in the hands of the descendants andrelatives of Levi Strauss' four nephews.
