ABRAHAM STOKER
Bram Stoker was born Abraham Stoker on November 8, 1847, in Dublin, Ireland, to father Abraham Stoker and mother Charlotte Matilda Blake Thornley Stoker. He was one of seven children. In 1878 Stoker married Florence Balcombe and on December 31 of 1879, Bram and Florence's only child was born, a son whom they christened Irving Noel Thornley Stoker
In 1864, Stoker enrolled atthe University of Dublin—founded by Queen Elizabeth I in 1592—where he attended the university's sole constituency, Trinity College. He graduated with honors from Trinity College in 1870, earning a mathematics degree. Not long after, he was hired as a civil servant at Dublin Castle, home to British royals in Ireland from the early 1800s to the early 1920s. (Stoker's father had also worked as acivil servant at the castle, and helped his son land a position there.)
Bram Stoker published his first literary work, The Duties of Clerks of Petty Sessions in Ireland, a handbook in legal administration, in 1879. Turning to fiction later in life, Stoker published his masterpiece, Dracula, in 1897. Deemed a classic horror novel not long after its release, Dracula has continued to garner acclaim formore than a century, inspiring the creation of hundreds of film, theatrical and literary adaptations. In addition to Dracula, he would publish 19 novels before the end of his life.
On April 20, 1912, Stoker died in London, England.

Hormonas
Las hormonas son sustancias secretadas por células especializadas, localizadas en glándulas de secreción interna oglándulas endocrinas (carentes de conductos), o también por células epiteliales e intersticiales cuyo fin es la de afectar la función de otras células. También hay hormonas que actúan sobre la misma célula que las sintetiza (autocrinas).
Características de las hormonas:
• Se producen en pequeñas cantidades
• Se liberan al espacio intercelular
• Viajan por la sangre
• Afectan tejidos que puedenencontrarse lejos del punto de origen de la hormona
• Su efecto es directamente proporcional a su concentración
Las hormonas pueden clasificarse tomando en cuenta distintos criterios, algunos de ellos son:
De acuerdo a su cualidad química existen los siguientes tipos de hormonas
• Derivadas de los aminoácidos: tal es el ejemplo de las hormonas tiroxinas y catecolaminas, que emanan deaminoácidos como triptófano y tirosina

• Peptídicas: están compuestas por cadenas de aminoácidos, polipéptidos u oligopéptidos. Estas hormonas, en su mayoría, no logran traspasar la membrana plasmática propia de las células dianas, esto hace que los receptores de esta clase de hormonas se ubiquen en la superficie celular.
