Edgar isbrought on a wheelchair by the nurse 1 into his room in the hospital. He’s hurt; he has an arm broken and bandages on his head and knee. Meanwhile you can hear his thoughts. [40]
Edgar’s thoughts:
“Ah,distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; - vainly I had sought to borrow
From my bookssurcease of sorrow - sorrow for the lost Lenore -
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels named Lenore -
Nameless here for evermore.”
Nurse 2 appears. Both nurses help him going into bed. Nurse1 leaves. Nurse 2 starts reading the patient’s record. You can hear her thoughts.

Nurse’s thoughts: Contusions on his knee and head, arm broken. Alcoholic and drug addict. Why do I always get the crazy patients?Nurse sighs. [10]
Nurse: So, Mr. Poe, you’ll be staying here for two weeks. My name is Mary, I’ll be your nurse. If you need anything just call me.
Edgar: I was on a high mountain, thinking. Thelast thing I remember is a shadow pushing me into the abysm, while I heard a caw. Then it all went black. [2 seconds pause] Why am I here? Call my wife, she must be worried. There’s a picture of herin my pocket.
Nurse stares confused at him. She takes the pants, starts looking for the picture and finds it. As she takes it, a bent paper falls. She picks it up and reads it. 14
