The Dark Ages, the Age Feudalism, and the Age of Faith are all very similar names to one age in time. What do these all have in common? They are all good descriptions of the Middle Ages. The periodof time from approximately A.D. 500 to 1400 was a very violent time in history. Feudalism helped in making the people this way. However, the faith the people had in the church enlightened their reasonto live, or at least it is thought so. Thereby, the Dark Ages, the Age of Feudalism, and the Age of Faith are perfect labels for the Middle Ages. This entry will now prove how the violence of thisera gave it the nickname of the Dark Ages. The designate Dark Ages puts the picture of violence and ignorance in a person’s mind, which is exactly what the Middle Ageswere about. All the invasions that were going on at the time are what made this period in time so violent. For instance, the Moors invading the South, or the Hungarians taking over the Easternprovinces (doc. 1.) In this document, the violence that went on at the time is almost visible, “they burned down the churches…” Another example, provided by document 3, shows the crimes that were happeninga lot at this time. One of which was stealing, known then as embezzlement. At last, in document 8, the reader can be drawn to the blindness that the people of the Middle Ages had about what was goingon around them, which was given by the church. This document is about the vows of the monastic, Brother Gerald, who said to “take the vows of purity, chastity, and poverty, in the hope of heaven.” Itis evident that these Middle Ages people were up to do anything in the return of going to a place called heaven. All of these documents prove why the Middle Ages can also be referred to as the Darkages, because the word dark is a symbolism for violence and crime.
