How we started
On May 13, 1987 was born the Light and Life Association in Panama City, Monsignor Romulo Emiliani inspired by seeing the suffering of the unfortunate elderly living on thestreets of Panama. The work began with the coming round every Monday from the National Heart Shrine Church of Mary and several cars traveling in the areas of Calidonia, Santa Ana and the Public Market. Inthese places were given food, medical care and spiritual guidance to the abandoned elderly.
After two years of consecutive work, the archbishop of that time Archbishop Marcos Gregorio McGrathdonated to the Light and Life Association an old house in the neighborhood of San Felipe for we will start our first nursing home.
He immediately began fundraising activities for the restoration of hisproperty and with great efforts and community donations the home was equipped with beds, dining tables, kitchen utensils, etc. in order to respond to fifty elderly residents.
We were at thefacility for 20 years but this property was built in 1915 required us too much spending on repairs. For these reasons, we felt the need to sell the property and start the project of building a new homelocated in Paradise, reverted areas.

Home Light and Life in Meteti
Founding of the March 28,1999 the second nursing home in Meteti Light and Life, Darien Province to154 km. away from the capital. Its purpose is to address the problem of the abandoned elderly.

The Meteti home has capacity for 30 elderly and its facilities include bedroom, diningroom, kitchen and sitting area or recreation and a large courtyard where Masses are held and recreational activities.

Food Program for Homeless
In addition to thecare and elder care residents, is served every day a dinner for an average of 125 homeless streets in the dining room located in the Basilica of Don Bosco in Calidonia. These vendors also receive...
