BENCH SHEARS


here are two kinds of bench shears. The bench lever or slitting shears have straight blades. They are used for cutting band orstrap iron and black-iron sheet. Never cut nails, rivets, or bolts with these shears. To opérate, open the blades, insert the metal with the layout linedirectly

The throat less bench shears with curved
blades areused to make curved or
irregular cuts on sheet stock as well as straight cuts. When cutting an irregular shape, constantly move the stock as you cut,following the layout line.

etal can be rougth-cut to length witheither a power hacksaw or a continuous blade horizontal band saw. The power hacksaw operates much like a hand hacksaw.

To opérate either saw, proceed asfollow:
1 Make sure the vises is at right angles to the blade.
2 Open the jaws until the long bar or rod slips through under slight pressure.
3 Lowerthe frame until the blade just clears the top of the metal. Now move the metal back and forth until the cutoff line is under the saw blade.




4 Tightenthe vise.
5 Turn on the power the blade slowly to the cutting position. The actual cutting is automatic. The saw will turn off when the cut is complete. Mostmodels have a

stop rod that can be set when cutting several pieces to the same length.
