Different authors, different stories
As we have read some short stories, from different authors, we can view them from distinctive perspectives. Everything makes them different,uniques, but in a way or another, they have some somilarities; each of them goes to suspense, nobody knows what it is going to happen. In this way, through the main character's development, Poe,Connell, and Saki, create and atmosphere of suspense.
Poe develops the suspense in “The Black Cat” with a narrator who tells how he killed his loved cat and his wife. Firstly we have akind man who loved animals since he was a child, a person who felt comfortable with them, likes he shared with his wife, but through years, he turned on a mean person. As in the storysays: “Our friendship lasted, in this manner, for several years, during which my general temperament and character --through the instrumentality of the Fiend Intemperance --had (I blush toconfess it) experienced a radical alteration for the worse”. (The Black Cat, 1843). He also became in a moody, irritable, regardless, and violent person. All of this, makes the story moreinteresting, that is why “critics considers it one of the creepiest of the story of literature” (wikipedia, 2012).
The character created by Connell, is develop as a cruel hunter calledGeneral Zaroff, who maintains us intrigue with his actions. The General was a cossack, he lived in the Ship-Trap Island and had a deaf and dumb servant, Ivan. He already knew Rainsford, thehunter who lost in the Island. The General Zaroff surprised us when he confessed what he hunted, Rainsford told him there's no animal can reason, and he replied: "My dear fellow," said thegeneral, "there is one that can." (The Most Dangerous Game, January 19th, 1924), referring to humans. Finally, General Zaroff challenged Rainsford, and confusedly, the General died.
