Give the devil the benefit of the law, I think it´s one of the mostimportant argument mentioned in the film that More use to defense himself. More was arguing that he wasn’t denying the king´s law, he was simply not accepting it.
The fact that he remain in silent, not toaccept o deny the king´s lay, gave him the benefit of one of the main principles and benefit of law. Remain in silent doesn’t mean denying, on the contrary, it means giving the reason or accepting.More was on trial because of the corruption, for having met the interest of a few, and he even knowing that remain in silent, and do not accept the king´s law was going to cost his life, he was firm inhis convictions and beliefs.
By using the argument “Give the devil the benefit of the law”, and many other arguments that More use in his defense, if we analyze them were good enough to declare himinnocent and to exempt him of the death.
However, even with the good defense that More had (since he is one of the most respected jurists in history), in this trial won the corruption and More wasbeheaded.
Unfortunately, I think today would follow the same problem of corruption, and what is worse is that the corruption increased. The only difference with the More´s case and now days is thatthere are no men who are willing to die for their ideal, to fight to meet the good and try to made justice.
Today instead of fighting for good, we all fall into corruption and cause that corruption...
