Friar Laurence was one of the most important characters that led tothe death of Romeo and Juliet. He firstly encouraged and supported these lovers to marry secretly, in hope that the long feud between the two households would end. He didn’t help the two thinkthoroughly about the decisions they were taking that would be difficult to hide later on in their lives. We also know, it was the friar himself who came up with the idea of Juliet taking the poison to fakeher own death. He knew things could go wrong but ignored them and gave Juliet what appeared to be an easy way out of her problems. This way, she wouldn’t marry Paris and could escape with Romeo later.Friar Laurence was only in charge then, of making sure that a letter explaining everything to Romeo was delivered, and he wasn’t able to do this right, even though it wasn’t his fault that friar Johnwas stopped from leaving Verona. If the letter had been taken to Romeo, he wouldn’t have thought Juliet was dead and the plan would have worked out.
