We are on the XIX century and this is a reality, it’s time to stop it! They must be treated like humans, not animals!
We are going to show you the reality ofthe African slaves.
The slave trade started in Britain. The beginning of the slave trade involved a number of important people. One of the first creators of the slave trade companies was Sir RobertRich who founded the London based company of Adventures to Guinea and Genin. Charles I granted a license to a group of London merchants in 1632 for the transportation of enslaved people from WestAfrica.
How British people benefit from the slave trade, and why is it so profitable for them?
The slaves are packed into ships. They sail from Africa across the Atlantic and the slaves are soldto plantation owners in the West Indies to produce goods like cotton, tobacco, sugar and cane coffee. The produced goods are shipped back to Britain – the “mother Country” - where they aremanufactured or refined (if is necessary) and they are sold in Britain or re-exported at a vast profit.
The slave trade is profitable because it bring to Britain some new products and huge amounts of money.Large sums of money are made by ships owners who never left England. Also, plantation owners use slave labour to grow their crops.
How are the Africans treated on the slave ships?
First, theslaves are put on to the hold of the slave ship. The men are usually separated of the women who are used for the sailors’ entertainment and the boys who worked on the ship. When a slave gets sick, thesailors throw him/her overboard, and he/she is drowned. The food is really awful; slaves are fed small portions of slop food. The Africans are transported in unhygienic conditions which lead to a highmortality rate and very few of them survive to the transport. Often the ships transport hundreds of slaves in a small space.
