HOMOSEXUALITY AND HOMOPHOBIA

Homosexuality is a theme that has always been causing a lot ofcontroversy, especially in families with strong traditional values, some churches, in countries where homosexuality is considered lack of moral, etc. During history, many people have thought thatHomosexuality is a mental disorder or even an illness, others mark that the Bible establishes that homosexuality is a sin, which needs to be eliminated from the person´s body. Although the bad connotation thathomosexuality has had, the American Psychiatric Association declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder in 1973. They stated the following: Homosexuality is a normal variation of human sexualorientation and being more specific, Sexual orientation is a term used to describe our patterns of emotional, romantic, and sexual attraction—and our sense of personal and social identity based on thoseattractions. In fact, it was totally declassified by the World Health Organization in 1990.
In spite of the information mentioned above, Homophobia is still a big concern for many people, defined asthe discrimination that some people had or have been facing through their lives, people who for some reason were born that way (Gay) and now have to deal with a bunch of negative attitudes andfeelings like prejudice, antipathy, fear and more. Therefore, many people have been literally crucified just for the fact of having a different sexual orientation. The worst of the worst is that many gaypeople confront these kinds of situations in their schools, jobs, even in their own families. Due to the disrespect of civil rights, men and women have abdicated to their lives, finally choosing the pathof suicide. Nothing can justify this act, no matter how big the cause or problem may be.
