How to do a bicycle generator

When inducing a current we generate electrical energy. An electric generator is a device that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy. A generator forces electric charge to flow through anexternal electrical circuit. The source of mechanical energy may be a reciprocating or turbine steam engine, waterwheel, an internal combustion engine, a wind turbine, a hand crank, compressed air orany other source of mechanical energy.

The bicycle generator consists on a wheel of a bicycle with magnets attached to it, which would create a magnetic field powerful enough to power a cell phone’sbattery.

How would it work?
A bicycle generator uses human power to generate electricity. Since energy is conserved, the chemical energy in theperson’s body is converted into mechanical energy in the bicycle, then electrical energy in the motor. Ampere’s law states that an electric charge passing through a looped circuit produces a magneticfield. The interaction of the internal electromagnet with a surrounding fixed magnet produces the attractive and repulsive force associated with the poles of magnets and causes rotation. A motor useselectrical energy to create rotational motion, but the bicycle generator uses mechanical energy and converts it into electrical energy. The motor can act as a generator if the person’s pedalingovercomes the electromotive force of the battery. The diode would allow current to flow in only one direction from the anode to cathode. Without it, the motor would cause the tire to spin instead of theway around.
