Within the outdoor expeditionary environment solar panels act as a direct trade off to primary batteries and provide one of the most efficient forms of renewable portable energy for charging devices ranging from laptops to mp3 players. However the logistics of setting up and charging with solar panels can be problematic, inefficient, unsafe and time consuming. Newdevelopments in technology continue to push outdoor survival to its limits, dramatically altering the versatility and portability of artefacts. At only 1.5mm thick and entirely waterproof, amorphous thin film rollable solar panels are at the forefront for renewable portable energy. The Universal SolarStand alleviates a number of associated problems with rollable Solar panels transforming thetechnology into a highly useable, highly commercial product. Integrated into the packaging of a rollable solar panel, the SolarStand provides increased power output by up to 35%, increased versatility and electronic equipment safety through a singular universal design for all existing rollable solar panels.

An Australian Provisional Application has been filed in collaboration with UniQuest and a commercialisation strategy is in development.
