The quebrada de Humahuaca is located in Jujuy, North west of Argentina. Begins 39 Km from San Salvador de Jujuy on rout nº 9 and covers about 170 km of valleys and mountains. Is the perfectcombination of spectacular landscapes and arqueological treasures. That’s the reason of UNESCO declared it as a "Cultural Itinerary of 10,000 years" and a "patrimonial system of unique characteristics”Combines a number of natural attractions, cultural and historical sites, what makes it one of the most attractive places for tourist in the North of Argentina.
“Volcan” is the first village inthe quebrada, from San Salvador de Jujuy. Later Tumbaya is at 2094 meters, with its eighteenth-century chapel and a a beautiful spring where, legend has it, drank San Francisco Solano.
45 minutesdrive from salvador de Jujuy we can contemplate Purmamarca at the foot hill of the “cerro de los 7 colores” one of the main attractions of the area together with the central square where the localartisan sell they products
Continuing North we will found Maymará attractive because of it’s carnivals. On this area the altitud is higher 2300 mts and its normal to see people drinking coca tea orchewing coca leaves.
Up the route we will get to one of the main attractions of the quebrada: The “Pucara de Tilcara” (Tilcara Fortress) that was made during precolombian time by the HumahuacasIndians to resist the Spanish colonization.
The best way to visit and appreciate the town of Tilcara is ridding “llamas”. Local people will make you fell that you are living in precolombian America.On the way to Humahuaca town, In Huacalera, a monolith indicates the crossing of the Tropic of Capricorn
They have a lot of particular religious fests it is a town of adobe houses. Was build in1641. In the middle theres is a monument conmemoring the heros of independence
